With Direct TV all you are getting rid of is the cable from the street
to your house.  Direct TV takes the same signal from the networks as the
cable companies and then sends it back to their own satellite and then
down to you.

If you really want to eliminate anyone in the middle get a C/Ku band big
dish.  Then you can watch the feeds directly from the networks.  Nothing
like watching Brokaw suffering from extreme flatulence or Rather yelling
at some poor PA for some stupid mistake before he reads the next
headline. Besides its fun telling people what will be on the eve news 2
hrs before its on.  Or my favorite feed from NASA and other govt
agencies.  Or redirect the dish and pickup the radio station feeds, and
hear music before its broadcast.
